This municipal project, completed in time for the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games, commissioned 16 different architects to reimagine these public spaces, where hygiene and privacy—so intrinsic to Japanese culture—had to take center stage. World-renowned architects and designers such as Tadao Ando, Fumihiko Maki, and Toyo Ito were responsible for bringing these new public toilets to life.
